Guide to Reading Food Labels
Food labels can be difficult to read, especially if you aren't aware of all the terminologies. Every manufacturer and supplier use a variety of terminologies, so it's easy to get confused. One thing to keep in mind is that the modern world is all about monetary gain. Due to this kind of mindset, there are loopholes in our law that allows manufacturers to bend the truth. For example, amino acid sports drinks or certain protein waters are advertised as being calorie free or low in calories. But here's a breakdown. We know that each gram of protein is 4 calories right? So, when a protein water is being advertised as having 20g of protein and only 30 calories, then there's clearly something wrong. There is a loophole in our law that states that companies do not need to display calories for the purposes of amino acids only. This is just one example, there are many more. What does this mean for you? You need to understand the terminologies and the things to keep an eye out so you can make better choices for yourself and your health.
